Ewing residents encouraged to prepare for hurricane season – Trentonian

Hurricane season is fast approaching and Ewing Mayor Bert Steinmann wants to make sure township residents are prepared.

EWING – Mayor Bert Steinmann is urging residents to be prepared as hurricane season begins June 1. The forecast calls for an active season with 17 to 25 named storms, and residents are encouraged to prepare for potential threats and sign up for alerts from Ewing Township. .

Residents can sign up for alerts from the Rave Mobile alert notification system. This system provides notifications about emergency and non-emergency situations via phone calls, emails or text messages. Alerts include information about floods, fires, water emergencies, road closures and weather emergencies, as well as township health events and services.

Residents with medical disabilities should register with Ewing Fire Companies for special assistance in an emergency. The Emergency Information Request Form must be completed and sent to fire companies to ensure adequate support during evacuations.

NOAA is forecasting above-normal hurricane activity in the Atlantic for 2024. The season is expected to see 17 to 25 named storms, 8 to 13 hurricanes, and 4 to 7 major hurricanes. Contributing factors include near-record warm ocean temperatures, La Niña conditions, reduced Atlantic trade winds and less wind shear.

Residents should create an emergency plan, including a disaster supply kit including food, water, flashlights, batteries, chargers, cash and first aid supplies relief for at least three days. Plans should include how to contact family members and where to meet in the event of an emergency. Property protection measures, such as installing sewer backwater valves and anchoring fuel tanks, are recommended.

Hurricanes can cause significant damage and pose a threat far inland. Residents are encouraged to prepare now for the 2024 hurricane season.
