iOS 18 would bring new text effects to the Messages app

With the official reveal of iOS 18 scheduled for June 10 at WWDC 2024, we now hear a new leak about the software update almost every day – and today’s unconfirmed rumor is that the app iOS Messages gets new text effects.

This comes from sources speaking to MacRumors, and the new animations will apparently rely on the full-screen effects already available in the software. These screen effects were added in iOS 10, launched in September 2016.

According to this leak, starting with iOS 18, you’ll be able to animate and format individual words in your message, meaning you’ll be able to be more specific about the emphasis in your outgoing texts.

With Apple promising to support the RCS standard in Messages later this year, it’s possible that the same effects will be available for green bubbles as well – although MacRumors isn’t sure if that’s happening or not.

That’s all the information we have on this particular leak, but there have been many more in recent days and weeks, mostly focused on AI. Siri is ready for a major upgrade and could do more in terms of controlling individual apps on your iPhone.

AI will apparently power new features in photo editing, website summarization, and message creation, if rumors are to be believed. Although much of this work is handled by Apple’s AI, a deal with OpenAI and ChatGPT has also reportedly been reached.

There was also talk of improved notification management, as well as updates to a whole host of Apple apps (including Calendar), and even some changes to the way app shortcuts are displayed on home screens.

Then there was news that we’ll see a revamped Settings page and Control Center in iOS 18, so that’s something else to watch out for. Apple is expected to make all of this official on June 10, with a full software rollout planned for September this year.
