The Presidential National Security Council is scheduled to meet Sunday after North Korea sent about 600 balloons carrying trash to South Korea, officials said.

The meeting will take place on Sunday afternoon and will be chaired by National Security Adviser Jang Ho-jin, according to President Yoon Suk Yeol’s office.

Earlier in the day, South Korea’s military said North Korea sent balloons carrying waste to the South on Saturday, despite a warning that the South would take “unbearable” and painful measures against such acts. of provocation.

This is the first time that the presidential office will hold a CNS meeting on the North’s balloon provocation.

The balloons carried various trash, such as cigarette butts, paper and plastic bags, just like previous balloons, according to the South Korean military.

North Korea had already sent about 260 balloons carrying trash and excrement to the South on Tuesday and Wednesday after warning of “tit for tat action” against anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent by South Korean activists. (Yonhap)
