Athletics season ends at Meet of Champions / iBerkshires.com

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Oliver Berkowitz and Lily Haskins-Vaughan of Monument Mountain and Justice Martin of Mount Greylock were the county’s best Saturday at the Massachusetts Meet of Champions at Fitchburg State University.

Haskins-Vaughan cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to tie for fourth place in the high jump, an event won by Tantasqua’s Haley McCormack, the only jumper in the meet to clear a score of 5-8.

Haskins-Vaughan County rival Chase Hoey of Mount Greylock went 5-2 and placed 12th at the All-State competition.

Berkowitz jumped 22 feet, 6 1/2 inches to place fourth in the long jump, where Antonio Wiafe of St. John’s was the winner with a mark of 23 1/2 feet.

The javelin was a popular venue for Berkshire County athletes on Saturday.

Martin had the best day among the five county throwers – boys and girls – in this event.

The Mount Greylock senior posted a mark of 178-0 to place fourth in the Commonwealth. Matthew St. Cyr of Walpole won the event with a throw of 191-10.
