Ariel Helwani reveals what she was told about canceled Conor McGregor event ahead of UFC 303

Ariel Helwani has provided an update after a planned event involving Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler was canceled ahead of their UFC 303 fight.

McGregor is set to make his return to the UFC after nearly three years away on June 29, where he will settle a grudge match against Chandler.

Ahead of their welterweight fight, the two were scheduled to come face to face at a press event on Monday.

The event was scheduled to take place at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, but was surprisingly postponed at short notice this morning.

In a statement, the UFC confirmed: “Dear UFC fans, the UFC 303 press conference scheduled for Monday, June 3 in Dublin, Ireland at 3Arena has been postponed until further notice. .

“We sincerely apologize to all fans who were planning to attend. When we have further information on a new date and time, we will share it immediately. Thank you.”

Now, Helwani has provided an update on the cancellation – confirming that the decision was made before Chandler visited the venue.

He took to Twitter to write: “Today’s UFC 303 press match in Dublin with Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler has been postponed. It’s not yet clear why.

“Luckily for Chandler, he found out yesterday (Sunday) that it was gone, just before he flew out there, I was told.”

Neither fighter has yet commented on the press conference postponement – ​​although Chandler has continued to promote the UFC 303 fight on his social media accounts.

It is claimed, according to MMA Orbit, that any fans who purchased tickets for the original event will be able to re-use them once a rescheduled date is officially announced.

UFC 303 will take place from T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, with McGregor vs. Chandler set as the main event.
