Semi-trailer slams vehicles at stop and store in Point Pleasant Beach

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A tractor-trailer crashed into vehicles parked along Route 35 in front of Stop & Shop Monday, overturning one and snapping at least one utility pole, officials said.

The tractor-trailer was heading south on Route 35 – also known as Richmond Avenue – when it struck several vehicles parked in the grocery store’s street parking lot, Ocean officials said Fire Company.

Video from nearby surveillance cameras released by News 12 New Jersey shows the impact, with at least three vehicles pushed forward and a Jeep overturned, landing on the bed of the semi.

Crews from the Point Pleasant Fire Company and the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Team checked for potential injuries; the vehicles were not occupied at the time and the truck driver was not injured.

Video posted by The Lakewood Scoop on Twitter showed a crane lifting the Jeep from the tractor-trailer bed.

Crews had to clean up fluids leaking from the truck and a crew from Jersey Central Power & Light had to repair the damaged power pole, firefighters said.

Patch requested additional information from Point Pleasant Beach police.
