UT announces new class of distinguished Tennessean researchers

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will welcome new students from across the state this fall as its newest class of Distinguished Tennessean Scholars.

“We are thrilled to once again offer the Tennessean Distinguished Scholarship to more than 90 freshmen from across our state, in recognition of their hard work, commitment to the community and academic merit said Kari Alldredge, vice president for enrollment management. “In addition to honoring our access mission as Tennessee’s flagship university, scholarships like these allow us to celebrate and support future volunteers who will light the path for others.” »

The university launched the Distinguished Tennessean Scholarship Award in fall 2022 with the goal of recognizing one student from each county in the state for outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated community engagement. The scholarship, which covers tuition and mandatory fees and is renewable for four years, is part of UT’s ongoing commitment to providing Tennessee students with access to an affordable and valuable education shaped by a rich student experience.

“Receiving this award gave me the opportunity to attend my dream school that I have thought about since I was a little boy,” said Jackson Lee, this year’s recipient from Rutherford County. “It means all the hard work is starting to pay off and allows me to begin the chapter of my life that I have always prayed for.”

Scholarship recipients from Bradley, Cannon, Carter and Lake counties are under consideration.

Tennessean Distinguished Scholarship Selection

Admitted in-state freshmen students are automatically considered for the Tennessean Distinguished Scholarship. To receive priority consideration, students must apply for admission by November 1 of their senior year of high school.

The recipient must be admitted to the university and enroll for the fall semester immediately upon graduation from a Tennessee high school.

In addition to the Tennessean Distinguished Scholarship, the university offers the Tri-Star Scholarship Program, Volunteer Scholarship, Orange and White Scholarship, and other institutional scholarships to Tennessee residents.
