COLUMN OF THE PORTAGE PUBLIC LIBRARY: Programs offered in June

Patti Fichter Portage Public Library

This year’s library summer program theme is “Adventure Begins at the Library.” We offer a program for children, adolescents and adults. The more you read this summer, the more chances you have to win prizes. The program runs until July 20. Join us to get in on the fun this summer.

The children’s department has a variety of new programs for June this year. Bring the family for a free movie and popcorn at 9:30 a.m. June 17. Every Tuesday at 10 a.m., it’s family story time for children, from birth to 5 years old. Older brothers and sisters are welcome as part of the family. Children in grades K-5 can participate in fun crafts and activities on Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Hikes on the Ice Age Trail take place from 9am to 10am on Friday mornings in June. We will explore four different areas of the Portage Canal segment as part of the Ice Age Trail. We will walk a distance of one mile round trip on the trail each Friday morning. Our adventure guide will provide you with information as we walk the trail, the different types of flora and fauna and other fun facts. All participants will receive stickers and can enter their name in a drawing for an Ice Age Trail treat basket. This program is aimed at all ages and the trail is accessible to strollers. I hope to see you on Friday mornings in June to experience adventure right here in our community.
