Jodie Comer breaks silence on role 28 years later

28 Years Later star Jodie Comer discussed the upcoming sequel, directed by Danny Boyle.

The sequel to the British horror classic 28 Days Later will find Killing Eve’s Comer facing the same apocalypse, which saw the rampaging infected tear across the continent.

Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack O’Connell were also cast.

“After meeting Danny (Boyle), he is incredibly self-assured, confident and innovative,” Comer told Total Film before filming. “As an actor, being on set with someone like that leading the charge is so exciting.

“I remember seeing 28 Days Later and I was so struck by how the film was so grounded in reality, and it was more about the exploration of us as a species, of our behavior and how we react.

“I felt like there was a lot of emotional truth to the film that really grounded it. That’s also how I felt reading this script,” she teased.

The 2002 original starred Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, and he said he was “thrilled” to reunite “the band” more than two decades later, after signing on as executive producer.

“I can’t give much more at this point, but I’ve always said I’d love to be involved because this movie changed everything for me – I have great affection for it and for (the writers Alex Garland and Boyle). I never watch my own films, except this one.

“It always airs around Halloween and during the pandemic, people were constantly sending me clips. And I showed it to my kids. It’s really held up, even though he’s 22 now,” Murphy added.

Sony Motion Pictures president Tim Rothman later confirmed that Murphy’s Survivor would be returning for the sequel.

28 Years Later is scheduled to be released on June 20, 2025.
