York councilors will discuss whether to allow Uber to operate in the city after refusing to renew the company’s license six years ago.

York City Council rejected the company’s application for a private hire operator license in December 2017 due to a “significant” data breach and growing complaints about Uber drivers in the area.

That year, 155 of 296 taxi complaints involved Uber drivers and vehicles.

Despite the ban, Uber drivers from other regions have been able to operate legally in the city.

In March, the ride-hailing company submitted a new license application, which will be discussed at a council meeting Tuesday.

The council has decided that, until its licensing policy is revised, private hire licenses can only be issued for a maximum period of one year.
