Ethel Cain Wants You to Stop Behaving Childishly on Her Childish Behavior Tour

Ethel Cain Wants You to Stop Behaving Childishly on Her Childish Behavior Tour

Okay, so the name of Ethel Cain’s short-lived summer run of shows in New York, Los Angeles, Europe and the UK may have been an unfortunate choice. The singer-songwriter’s subreddit has become a jungle of grievances, reporting various disrespectful acts – from people drowning out Cain’s performance by shouting during the songs, to audience members being groped and mocked by a fan disabled for an episode – during recent performances, particularly a June 5 concert at the Roundhouse in London.

She’s performing at the same venue again tonight, and given that concertgoers reportedly went against her wish (posted on social media as recently as before her June 3 concert in Paris) to treat herself Kindly, she shared another statement addressing the alleged behavioral issues that continue to crop up online.

“Hi everyone! I just wanted to reiterate before tonight’s show in London that it is extremely important to me that you all respect each other in the queue and once in the room,” Cain wrote on his story Instagram. “I really hate hearing that everyone who attends our shows leaves with a negative experience because of bad behavior in the pit. Rushing out front, slapping people’s hands when I reach out to them, verbally insulting people, It’s just not very nice.”

She continued, “I come and play these songs because I love them and I hope the reason you come is because you love them too. There’s really no room for anything else at the these shows Please don’t give us the reputation of being a band that has a negative concert experience for fans. I want people to feel safe and excited when they come, not like. if they were going to have to fight for their lives just to hear music I greatly appreciate the community and love between those who connect through shared experiences and I find it truly disappointing and disheartening to think that this is not the case. would not be the case for some people because of the insensitivity of others.”

“Again, to everyone who will be coming tonight or at any upcoming shows, thank you so much for your love and support and we are always very excited to perform for you and look forward to seeing you,” the artist concluded. “Stay safe, stay hydrated and we’ll see you tonight!!”

If there’s anything we can take from the current state of the live music industry, it’s that people don’t know how to act. Whether it was a huge stadium concert or a small bar show, new levels of audience disrespect seemed to hit the culture in the face with a phone once summer 2023 arrived. How many more artists have to beg their fans not to throw things — or not talk loudly during opening sets, or just be normal — before people start listening?

See below for Cain’s message to those attending tonight’s show of the unfortunately named Childish Behavior Tour.
