Michigan just tendered a local QB recruit, and he hasn’t even started high school yet

Over the years, the Michigan Wolverines have recruited many football players from their own backyard. Guys like Aidan Hutchinson, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Mazi Smith, Michael Onwenu, Donovan Edwards, Giovanni El-Hadi and many more players grew up in Michigan State and played college football in Ann Arbor.

For many of them, the Wolverines began recruiting them early in high school. One player who didn’t end up at UM — current Oregon quarterback Dante Moore — was offered a scholarship when he was in seventh grade. He became a highly decorated prospect and was five-star by the time it was all said and done.

New head coach Sherrone Moore shows he’s also not afraid to offer players who have yet to start their high school careers, as 2028 All-State quarterback Donald Tabron II, announced Tuesday morning on social media that he had earned a scholarship to play at Michigan.

Tabron will be a true freshman at Cass Tech in Detroit – a major recruiting pipeline for the Wolverines over the years – this fall. According to his 247Sports profile, he is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds.

Michigan is not the first Power 4 program to offer Tabron a scholarship, as he has previously received offers from Penn State, Kentucky and Maryland. It was also proposed by Marshall.

Although he has yet to earn a high school pass, Tabron is no stranger to Ann Arbor. He returned in April for spring training and earned his offer following a camp in which he earned quarterback MVP honors.

This is certainly a recruitment to watch over the next four years. While nothing big will (probably) materialize until he’s a junior/senior in high school, it will be fun to follow his journey at a school like Cass Tech, where a lot of big-time football is played.
