Khabib Nurmagomedov Posts Fascinating Locker Room Footage From Islam Makhachev’s UFC 302 Title Victory

Khabib Nurmagomedov shares fascinating locker room footage before and immediately after Islam Makhachev’s title win.

Although he remained one of the most confident champions in UFC history, there was understandably a tinge of tension in the air of Islam Makhachev’s locker room in the hours leading up to his fight for the lightweight title earlier this month.

Khabib posts locker room footage of Islam Makhachev’s title win

In addition to coaching his friend and teammate to UFC title success, former world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is also his partial videographer; after posting a fascinating series of Fight Week VLOGs on his YouTube channel in the build-up to UFC 302.

In the series’ latest episode, the film crew gives fans a behind-the-curtain look at the current 155-pound king’s Fight Day preparations, a day that begins with what Khabib called a “tradition” of his own championship routine, early one morning. training.

This workout included only a short run, stretching, and a few rounds of work on the mats before Makhachev went back to sleep for a few hours; about 13 hours before his eventual walk into the ring.

“On the day of the fight, we came to stretch a little, warm up, sweat because after the weigh-in, we drink a lot of fluids, and it has to be distributed throughout the body,” Makhachev explained.

“The plan is as usual: wake up the day of the fight and train for 30 to 40 minutes. Now we have breakfast, rest and are ready.

Even after months of preparation, Nurmagomedov himself can be seen at the center of a group with a phone in hand as he breaks down yet another Poirier film. Makhachev watches intently as he studies every minute detail possible about “The Diamond,” even just hours before their fight.

Rizvan Magomedov, Makhachev’s co-manager, described the team’s mood and locker room atmosphere in the hours leading up to the UFC 302 main event showdown against Poirier.

“Now the tension is gradually rising,” Magomedov said, revealing that there was a slight air of apprehension before the walkouts: “We sit, smile, but I know that deep down, everyone in the team is anxious.”

As Makhachev’s victorious team returned to their locker room, the camera turned to Khabib Nurmagomedov for his immediate post-fight reaction.

“Islam teaches him to choke people,” he laughed before adding: “But Dustin is a great fighter, I have great respect for him – I met his father yesterday (because ) we stayed in the same hotel.

“At the end of the day, it’s like life. It’s all about respect. This sport is all about discipline and respect, you know, and I just want to wish him and his whole family the best.

Dustin Poirier compares Khabib’s style to Makhachev’s

Interestingly, having been in the UFC octagon with both heavyweights, Dustin Poirier recently compared Khabib to Makhachev on an episode of The MMA Hour.

“The takedowns are different. The pressure is similar. The takedowns are different, he (Makhachev) does a lot of upper body stuff. He was still trying to catch me (while) Khabib was shooting lower shots.

“I think Khabib is stronger, physically stronger, the pressure from Islam was unbelievable. All these guys are strong but it wasn’t overwhelming, but his pressure, it was like a vice.

Poirier ultimately said that although “this style of fighting is the hardest for me,” Makhachev lived up to all the expectations “The Diamond” had for him before he entered the Prudential Center.

“He was everything I thought he would be. He’s the champion. I knew he was tough. I knew he was going to be strong. I knew he had courage. You don’t get into the position he’s in by not having all those things.

With the victory at UFC 302, Islam Makhachev improved to 26-1 as a professional.
