Commanders urged to consider trade for disgruntled wide receiver

Adam Peters has done a good job maximizing assets during his first recruiting stint as general manager. Everyone expected drastic changes within the Washington Commanders as Josh Harris’ ownership group began to implement its ambitious plans. The drastic nature of these changes constitutes a damning assessment of Ron Rivera’s final season at the helm.

Peters knows the work is not done. This is the first phase of its long-term proposals. Commanders have some concerns within certain post groups. Fortunately for the front office leader, it has more capital to make other acquisitions if the right opportunities present themselves.

Commanders are No. 2 in the order of priority for waivers. They have $44.51 million in available salary cap space. Peters could also look at some possibilities on the trade market despite only having six selections in the 2025 NFL Draft as things stand.

This was a topic covered by Enzo Flojo of Clutch Points. The writer urged the commanders to consider making a bold trade for disgruntled Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Something that would provide rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels with another dynamic weapon to aid his transition.

“Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton could find himself with a new team this offseason. With Sutton and the Broncos unable to agree on a substantial contract extension, the talented wide receiver could be on the move. Keep in touch Mind you, the Commanders drafted rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick. Having a seasoned receiver like Sutton would greatly benefit Daniels who excels at making tough catches, even when the throws are wide. be perfect. Sutton’s tenure in Denver is a testament to that. Remember, many of the passes he caught from Russell Wilson were far from perfect.

Sutton is unhappy with his current contract status and wants a new deal. He’s still paid well, but the increase in expanded contracts around the league hasn’t gone unnoticed by the player.

The Broncos face a tricky situation. For now, they hold the cards. Trading away another major weapon after shipping Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns will have huge ramifications for rookie signal-caller Bo Nix. However, head coach Sean Payton boasts Tim Patrick, Josh Reynolds, Troy Frankin and Marvin Mims Jr. to take over.

Denver will not betray Sutton. He has two years remaining on his contract and is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL. The compensation will be steep. It also means that commanders are prepared to provide the entire zone with the long-term financial security it seeks.

Considering the money also tied up in Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin, that seems unlikely.

It’s a win-win decision when commanders are in transition. Sutton makes this team better, that’s undeniable. Whether Peters wants to give him more than $20 million per season and sacrifice the value of draft capital if the Broncos start fielding calls is debatable.

The Commanders appear willing to give Jahan Dotson, Luke McCaffrey, Olamide Zaccheaus and Dyami Brown chances to feature in Kliff Kingsbiry’s offensive scheme. If they fail to meet increased standards, a trade like this becomes more realistic.
