Sena (UBT) demands cancellation of India-Pak match due to terror attacks

Mumbai: A Shiv Sena (UBT) leader has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking cancellation of a match between India and Pakistan in the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup in view of the recent attacks terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

India won a Group A match against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 in New York. The two teams could face each other in the semi-final or final if they both progress further.

“India should cancel the cricket match against Pakistan in view of the continuing violence,” Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey said in his letter, also addressed to the Union Home Minister. Union, Amit Shah, to the Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Board of Control for Cricket. in India (BCCI).

The undivided Shiv Sena was known to fiercely oppose India-Pakistan encounters and its activists had once dug up the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium here before a match against Pakistan.

A CRPF jawan was killed and six security personnel were injured in two night-time encounters with terrorists in Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir two days ago.

Earlier, nine people were killed and 33 others injured when terrorists struck a bus carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Sunday evening, opening fire on the vehicle which had fallen into a gorge.
