Styles inspired by model Naomi Campbell

Over the past 40 years, model Naomi Campbell has blazed a trail across the fashion world and beyond with no signs of slowing down. She has graced countless runway shows and magazine covers, photographed by Jamie Morgan in 1984 to count designers like Jasper Conran, John Galliano, and Vivienne Westwood among her cohort of creative partners. In Naomi in fashion (Rizzoli), the multifaceted model tells her story while her collaborators share their views on her prestigious career. Accompanying the exhibition of the same name at the Victoria & Albert Museum which opens on June 22, the catalog presents her personally selected portfolio with meditations on the collected looks and dissects the impact of her presence in five acts: model, muse, brand creator, creative collaborator. , and activist.

The book opens with a conversation between Campbell and the critic Tim Blanks, editor-in-chief for The fashion business. “In the images, I wanted to break all boundaries,” explains Campbell. “I didn’t really know the word borders to be honest. I should say I wanted to break all the rules. Edward Enninful, whose career has shaped Campbell’s over the years, praises this precise mentality in his preface. “Her unparalleled ability to project power through imagery is a gift to us all,” he writes.

Imitation may be the highest form of flattery, but for someone who remains steadfastly committed to their individuality, inspiration may be a more fitting tribute. Here, a selection of pieces imbued with a touch of the model’s essence.
