He said his body started to deteriorate after completing the Sydney half marathon.

Mr Sandhu said he then underwent several tests such as blood tests, ultrasound scans, CT scans, PET scans and tissue biopsies. Doctors gave him terrifying news about his health.

Cancer refers to the abnormal growth of white blood cells, called lymphocytes, which can form growths in the body. An advanced stage four diagnosis means the cancer has spread outside of the lymph nodes and to other areas of the body.

The social media manager will now undergo chemotherapy and has already started a course of steroids and antibiotics to target his recurring fever and sweats.

“I can safely say that I am about to embark on the greatest challenge of my life,” he said.

“Of course I can’t believe it, but at the same time, so much is out of our control. I’ve had more time to understand why I (given) all the things I do that would make me think I would be in a category not susceptible to this.
