NEET scam is Vyapam 2.0; why is PM Modi silent: Congress

New Delhi: Stepping up its attack on the government over the issue of NEET exams, the Congress on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the issue and asserted that only a forensic probe supervised by the Supreme Court can safeguard the future of thousands of young students.

Modi covers up NEET scam: Kharge

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the Modi government started “covering up the NEET scam” through Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the National Testing Agency (NTA).

“If the diary was not leaked in NEET, why were 13 accused arrested in Bihar due to paper leak? Did the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of Patna Police not reveal payment of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh to education mafia and organized gangs involved in the racket in exchange papers? he said in a Hindi article on X.

“Has the NEET-UG cheating racket not been busted in Godhra, Gujarat? In which three people are involved including a person who runs a coaching center, a teacher and another person and according to the Gujarat Police, transactions of over Rs 12 crore have been revealed between the accused? » said Kharge.

If according to the Modi government no documents were disclosed in NEET, then why were these arrests made, he asked.

” What conclusion to draw ? Did the Modi government try to mislead the people of the country earlier or now? The Modi government has crushed the aspirations of 24 lakh youth,” Kharge said.

Twenty-four lakh young people appear for the NEET exam to become doctors and are working hard day and night to secure one lakh medical seats, he said.

“Of these 1 lakh seats, around 55,000 are in government colleges where seats are reserved for SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories. This time, the Modi government misused the NTA and massively rigged the marks and ranks, which also increased the cut-off for reserved seats,” the Congress leader alleged.

It seems that a game of pardons, paper leaks and rigging was played to deprive deserving students of government admission at concessional rates, Kharge said.

NEET scam is Vyapam 2.0: Khera

Addressing a press conference on the issue at the AICC headquarters here, Congress media and publicity department head Pawan Khera claimed that “NEET scam is Vyapam 2.0” and the government Modi wants to whitewash her.

The Vyapam or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam broke out in 2013, in which candidates had bribed officials and rigged exams by deploying impostors to write their answer sheets.

Pradhan’s brazen statement, terming widespread protests, multiple court cases and huge student outrage as ‘motivated’, amounts to rubbing salt in the wounds of 24 lakh aspirants, whose future is being destroyed by the BJP , Khera said.

Asking questions to Prime Minister Modi and Pradhan, Khera asked if it was not true that the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of Patna (Bihar) police, which is probing the NEET-UG paper leak 2024, had found that medical aspirants had paid huge sums ranging from Rs. 30 lakh to Rs 50 lakh each to the ‘brokers’ involved in the racket, to get access to the questions before the May 5 exam.

“Can the Education Minister deny that a NEET-UG cheating racket has been busted in Godhra, Gujarat, involving three people, including a person who runs a coaching center, a teacher and another, in which the investigation into the case revealed a transaction worth over Rs 12 crore between the students, their parents and the accused he said.

Isn’t it true that this year, 2024, 67 winners achieved a perfect score of 720, while in 2023, this number was only two, Khera said.

Is it not true that this year there was an abnormal increase in the number of students scoring above 690, he asked.

“Is it not true that several NEET-UG 2024 toppers belong to the same state and have similar roll numbers? Did they come from the same exam centers? he said.

Is it not true that the NEET exam results were declared 10 days earlier, Khera further asked.

“PM Modi cannot always remain a mute spectator. Why is he remaining silent when the future of 24 million young people is at stake? he said.

Khera questioned why the Modi government and the NTA had “inflated” the marks compared to the ranks this year.

“The complete results of last year and this year of students scoring 580 and above should be made public by the NTA if the Modi government claims that the entire examination process is transparent. Centers of students scoring 580 or above should also be made public to see how many students have traveled away from home to take the NEET exam,” he said.

Khera said the board scores should also be correlated with last year’s and this year’s NEET scores to see how well the data correlates.

“Videos of centers where high scores are located should be released so that this scam can be identified as OMR was filled after exam or at NTA office or impersonation happened so that the truth comes out,” he said.

Only a forensic investigation supervised by the Supreme Court is a solution to safeguard the future of thousands of young students, Khera asserted.

The Center and the NTA on Thursday told the Supreme Court that they had canceled pardons granted to 1,563 candidates who had taken the entrance exam for MBBS and other such courses.

They will have the possibility either to retake an exam or to waive the compensatory marks which were granted to them for wasting time, the Center indicated.
