By a Movieguide® contributor

Yoshi Barrigas shared his gratitude to Dallas Jenkins and THE CHOSEN fans following the series’ release to streaming, revealing that he did not reprise his role as Phillip.

“Hello. That’s right. For professional and personal reasons, I will no longer be a part of THE CHOSEN,” Barrigas wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, per Collider. “First and foremost, I want to thank you, the fans .Our connection and your constant shower of love and support has planted a warmth in me that will nourish me forever.

“Meeting you around the world and hearing how the show has personally enriched your lives continues to be the connective tissue between me and the good people of this world,” he continued. “You inspire me to continue to die to myself and discover The Way. I hope you will continue to follow my journey. I have much more to share with you.

Barrigas began his portrayal of Phillip in episode two of season 2 when he was introduced to Jesus and began following him as one of the disciples. Although Barrigas has played small roles in the past, his role in THE CHOSEN was his first starring role in a series – an opportunity for which he is extremely grateful.

“I couldn’t have gotten to where I am now without you and without THE ONE. I want to thank Dallas and Amanda (Jenkins) for changing my life and giving me the role of Phillip,” Barrigas said. “I see and physically feel the impact that Dallas’ baby has had on life. humanity when you all approach me and share your stories It’s so overwhelming.

“I learned how a set works. I learned the infinite depths of my craft and the many ways to approach it. And more importantly, the show functioned as a vessel for God to demand that I begin to know Him. To rent it. To enjoy ! My studies of the Scriptures have and continue to erode all my excess marble,” he continued.

Movieguide® once spoke with a pastor who helped Barrigas better understand his character and the gospel:

“I found out — once I got back to Austin and connected — that he told me he was an actor and he played one of the disciples in this show called THE CHOSEN,” Van Court explained. The actor was Yoshi Barrigas who plays Phillip. “I had never watched the show. I had heard a little about it, but I never saw it.

“I said, how, you know, it’s a coincidence that you’re playing a follower of Jesus. I am a follower of Jesus,” he said of their conversation…

“He played the apostle Philip, and when he received the script for season 3, he was confused about what was going on with his character. (He) started leading some things with me, and I had some ideas for him, just by knowing the scriptures,” Van Court said.

“Finally, I want to thank the incredible crew,” concluded Barrigas. “It was an absolute honor to be part of your family. I learned so much from watching your passionate work and was spoiled by the kindness you managed to radiate while still focusing on the task at hand.

With the departure of Barrigas, Reza Diako takes over. Diako has previously appeared in THE BEEKEEPER, THE DIPLOMAT and LONDON CLASS.

Season 4 of THE CHOSEN is now available to stream with new episodes airing Thursdays and Sundays through the end of June.

Movieguide® previously reported on season 4:

Excitement for Season 4 of THE CHOSEN was undeniable earlier this week, as the show’s app rose to No. 1 in the Apple TV App Store and No. 2 on the rankings free apps from the App Store.

This incredible performance took place during the streaming of the first episode of season 4. THE CHOSEN later revealed that in the first three days after the episode’s release, it was streamed 3.5 million times, reaching approximately 4.2 million viewers in the United States, a growth of almost 100% since the release of season 3.

“The numbers are great, but what speaks to us even more are the comments and emotional reactions from viewers,” said Dallas Jenkins, the series’ creator. “The crying emojis in the chat and expressions of how the ending impacted them were overwhelming.”

This emotional response was also felt during the season’s theatrical release, with many fans warning others to prepare for many ups and downs.
