Chadbourn police and Columbus County deputies captured the last of four suspects who ran out of gas while trying to escape police.

Kendrick Lee Dakota Hunt, 26, of Lumberton, was held on $27,500 secured bond for misdemeanor theft, resisting a public officer and probation violation. The latest charge came from Robeson County, according to detention center records.

Hunt, along with Casandra LeClaire, Christopher LeClaire and Chastity Locklear, allegedly shoplifted a number of “expensive” items from Chadbourn Advance Auto on Tuesday, Chadbourn police said. A responding CPD officer spotted their distinctively colored SUV and pursued it, along with Columbus County deputies.

The four went missing in Cerro Gordo, and while officers were searching the area, a resident called 911 about a vehicle in his yard with four individuals inside. One of the men was begging for fuel money at houses in the area.

Officers caught Casandra LeClaire and Locklear near the vehicle and arrested Christopher LeClaire a short distance away.

Hunt reportedly escaped on foot. Witnesses reported seeing law enforcement officers arrest Hunt behind Cerro Gordo School Wednesday morning.

The four suspects were initially charged with misdemeanor theft and resisting a public officer. Locklear and Christopher LeClaire were also charged with fleeing to elude arrest. LeClaire was wanted in Robeson County for a probation violation.

Additional charges are pending in this case.
