Governor Beshear announces .5 million for community improvements

FRANKFURT, Ky. (WYMT) – During Team Kentucky’s weekly update, Governor Andy Beshear announced $8.5 million will be directed to twelve projects across Kentucky to help improve community facilities.

The City of Wayland will spend $750,000 to construct an expansion to the existing Wayland Gymnasium, located on King Kelly Coleman Highway in Wayland. Two additional floors will be constructed and features will include a walking track, elevator, and accessible entrances and restrooms.

The City of Corbin will spend $351,000 to renovate the kitchen of the senior center on Barbourville Street. This facility provides 80 meals per day and was in need of an upgrade.

“When we invest in our communities, we make investments that help improve the lives of our families and support economic growth and new job creation,” said Governor Beshear.

More than $29 million has been approved in Kentucky Community Development Blockchain – Community Projects funding since 2020, which has been used to improve various community facilities across the state.
