LaVar Ball doesn’t stay silent after meeting with Magic Johnson, Rob Pelinka

Lakers management tried to get LaVar Ball to tone down his comments about how his son Lonzo is used by coach Luke Walton. The meeting does not seem to have had the desired effect.

The elder Ball and his business manager met with Lakers president Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka on Nov. 29 in Los Angeles before the team’s game against the Warriors, ESPN.com reported Tuesday night.

Less than a week later, LaVar Ball again criticized Walton for his rotation, saying Lonzo had to play the entire fourth quarter of games. NBA starters typically sit out for the first part of the period before re-entering. Lonzo Ball sat for the first 4 minutes and 15 seconds of the fourth against the Knicks on Tuesday, then played the finale at 12:45 p.m.

“I’m going to say what I want, however I want to say it,” Ball said Tuesday night (according to ESPN.com) at Madison Square Garden, where the Lakers lost in overtime. “And they said, ‘LaVar, come talk to us first.’ So that’s good too.

“But I’m going to say, to plant a seed: ‘Let’s look for this now.’ They may not want to hear that, but it’s going to be successful if you listen to what I say about how I know what it takes for my son to run like that.”

Johnson and Pelinka declined to comment on the meeting. Walton has publicly disdained what LaVar Ball wants.

The elder Ball also engaged in cheerful conversation as he recounted the meeting.

“What I like about (Johnson) is just the communication that we have as a family and as friends to resolve the situation, it’s just solutions that we throw at each other. It’s whatever it is,” he said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “The press will make it look like I’m trying to put them down or they’re trying to put me down. And that’s not the case.

“We’re just talking, we’re just talking. We try to do what’s best for the team. That’s all.”
