A TERRIFYING road rage incident last night shocked residents of a picturesque Co Kildare village with a couple filmed smashing a car.

Gardai are investigating a series of alleged offenses arising from the Ballymore Eustace incident, including assaults on three people and damage to a car as well as a building.

In the video, the couple is seen in the main square beating with weapons a silver car whose rear window appears to be broken.

In footage posted online, an adult can be seen telling a frightened child to “Close your eyes, close your eyes”. “I’m not looking, am I?” replies the frightened young man.

A second video taken from a different angle shows a man approaching the silver car which appears to be stopped in front of a second car in the middle of the village.

A man then emerges, armed with an instrument and appears to face the man who approaches with the woman.

The tool is swung several times at the taller man who defends himself and parries the blows.

The woman is also seen attempting to connect with a kick before the pair then get into a third car to try to flee.

Another group of men runs towards the third car and one of them picks up the discarded tool and falls when the driver reverses.

One person can be heard saying a “hammer” is being used and another person “lost their mind.”

The incident and events leading up to it are currently being investigated by gardaí.

“Gardaí are investigating a number of incidents of dangerous driving, criminal damage and assault which occurred on Main Street, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare on the evening of Wednesday June 12, 2024 at approximately 8:45 p.m..”

“Damage was caused to a number of vehicles as well as a building.”

“Three people were attacked (two men and a woman, all aged around 50) during the incidents. Ongoing investigations.

A local resident told the Sunday World that the incident had deeply shocked residents in the area.
