Swedish punks Denied canceled their final concert in their home country of Sweden after the singer Dennis Lyxzen suffered a “massive heart attack” in his hotel room.

Earlier this year, Refused announced that they would be performing at Rosendal Garden Party in Stockholm alongside Turnstile, MIA and more. The festival appearance would have taken place today (June 14).

The cancellation of the band’s festival was announced on Lyxzén’s Instagram page, where he uploaded a photo of himself in a hospital bed.

“This morning I had a massive heart attack in my hotel room. It was extremely painful and extremely scary,” Lyxzén wrote on Instagram.

“Thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at Uppsala Hospital, I am still here to fight another day. Under the circumstances, I feel good. Sore, tired and really shaken.

Regarding the festival’s cancellation, Lyxzén continued, “I really (sic) really hate to cancel the show but the doctor told me not to rock for a few weeks,” writing that Refused would no longer perform at the Rosendal Garden Party.

“Life is strange and precious. Take care of everyone and tell your loved ones that you love them.

Refused last played Australia in 2017. In a review for The musicJake Morton said of the band’s concert at the Tivoli:

“The group’s surprising and contrasting arrangements provide an intense feeling of empowerment and confusion that magically transforms into euphoria in the performance space. Refused are a band of seasoned veterans whose dazzling live performance should be experienced by all.

Chris Familton said of the band’s most recent album, their second release after a hiatus, 2019’s. War music:War music cements the band’s return to active duty, but it’s a more refined and compact version of the modern rock album.
