Longtime Mavs fan continues to cheer for the team – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

At 88 years old, Jackie Marx hasn’t missed a beat.

“I don’t move as well as I used to, but I still move,” Marx said.

Marx is a die-hard Mavs fan who is an integral part of the American Airlines Center.

She’s a Jumbotron regular, known for twirling napkins and for the nickname the announcer gave her: Mavs Grandma.

Marx’s first Mavs game was played at Reunion Arena when the team was founded in 1980.

“After that, I said, ‘We’re getting tickets for this,’” Marx said.

She’s been a season ticket holder ever since, and some of the Mavs memorabilia she’s collected over the past 44 years is on display in her Dallas home.

She even has a Mavs blue Mustang.

“I’ve loved this game since high school. In college, I played on my sorority team. I don’t think we ever won a game, but it was still fun to play,” Marx said.

Marx says she’s only missed a few games this season and calls being in the arena “exuberant.”

It’s also moving.

She was there Wednesday night to watch the Mavs lose in Game 3.

“I couldn’t believe we lost the game. If Luka hadn’t been eliminated, we probably could have pulled out and won,” Marx said.

She says she has to miss Friday’s game since her son will be 50 years old.

“I’ll ask him every five or 10 minutes to check how the Mavs are doing on his phone,” Marx said.

Hopefully the Mavs will give him another reason to celebrate.
