Trump says VP pick ‘probably’ in room with him at DC GOP meeting

Former President Donald Trump hinted once again who his running mate might be after meeting with Republican lawmakers in Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

For months, the former president has been making fun of who his running mate will be. Trump, speaking to Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie on Thursday, suggested that his pick for vice president was most likely in the room during his meeting with Republican lawmakers from both houses of Congress.

“Probably…I think we’ll probably announce it at the convention,” Trump told the outlet.

When Hasnie asked him if he knew who his running mate would be, Trump said he had a “pretty good idea.”

“I have a pretty good idea,” Trump said. “Look, we have some really talented people. I have a pretty good idea.

The former president met with House Republicans and then GOP senators in his first visit to the Capitol since his presidency ended in 2021. As Trump fights for a second term in November, the GOP seeks to keep control of the House of Representatives and regain control of the Senate.

Several of Trump’s top running mates are currently serving in Congress. Some of the names considered for the shortlist include Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tim Scott (R-SC), and JD Vance (R-OH), as well as Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

Trump is expected to announce his running mate at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee next month. President Joe Biden’s running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, has been hurt by low approval ratings, from which Trump and Biden have also suffered.
