Ready to throw a big one? Fishing is free on Father’s Day weekend

Are you ready to throw a big one?

To celebrate Father’s Day, a free family fishing weekend is being organized on June 15 and 16. This means Ontario residents can cast a line in the water anywhere in the province without having to purchase a permit or carry an Outdoors Card.

“Father’s Day weekend is the perfect time to get out on one of Ontario’s beautiful lakes or rivers and fish,” said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources, in a news release.

Conservation catch limits and other regulations still apply. You can read more about them here.

Although you don’t need a license to fish, participants must still have government-issued identification showing their name and date of birth.

If you can’t drop a line this weekend, Free Family Fishing Week is June 29-July 7.
