Muslims from around the world converged on Mount Arafat, the “hill of mercy” south of Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Mecca, on Saturday for the most important ritual of the pilgrimage.

Coinciding with this culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage, the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, released his annual Hajj message, this year focusing on events in Gaza.

In his message, the Leader affirmed that the question of bara’at (the renunciation of polytheists) is more significant than ever in the context of the genocidal Israeli-American war against the Palestinians in Gaza.

More than 37,000 people have been killed in the besieged Palestinian territory since the events of October 7, the majority of them children and women. More than two million people have been displaced.

The tragedies in Gaza, the Supreme Leader said in his message, are “unprecedented in contemporary history” and leave no room for tolerance on the part of any individual, party, government or of a Muslim faith.

“This year, the renunciation of polytheists must continue beyond the time and place of Hajj, in all Muslim countries and cities around the world. It must extend beyond just Hajj pilgrims and encompass the general population,” said Ayatollah Khamenei.

He added that renunciation of the Zionist regime and its supporters, particularly the United States, must be “demonstrated in words and actions” to end the deadly attack on Palestinians.

“The unfailing resistance of Palestine and the patient and oppressed people of Gaza – whose remarkable patience and resilience have earned them the admiration and respect of the entire world – must be fully supported by all means,” continues the message.

The message was read to pilgrims at Mount Arafat, who vehemently chanted slogans against the Israeli regime and its accomplices while reaffirming their support for the Palestinian cause.
