Coroner provides update after birth and death certificates stopped being issued in Warrick County | Indiana

The Warrick County Coroner’s Office released a statement Friday saying the problem created by the unexplained suspension extends beyond birth and death certificates and is even addressed by Indiana law.

The statement from the coroner’s office said, in part…

When it comes to the operation of the Warrick County Coroner’s Office, the Health Officer plays a critical role in granting authorization removal, transfer of care, and preparation for burial of the deceased These vital services to the public cannot be provided without the provision of a health care officer An Indiana law has been drafted and enacted. to prevent this. According to IC 16-20-2-16, the Board of Health appoints a health officer who continues to serve as Officer until a successor is appointed and qualified. , it is the intention of the Warrick County Coroner’s Office to continue to operate in accordance with Indiana State law, which is that Dr. Rick Yeager continues to be the duly appointed Warrick County Coroner. With this understanding, we will continue to provide services to the community and ensure appropriate and respectful care for those who die in our county.

According to the coroner, the Board of Health has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday, June 18 at 4 p.m. to determine whether or not Dr. Yeager should be removed from his position as health officer, or reinstated to that position.
