LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A traffic stop in Jeffersontown earlier this week ended with the arrest of two men on drug charges.

It happened Wednesday near Shelbyville Road and South Hurstbourne Parkway, according to a news release from Jeffersontown Police Chief Rick Sanders. During the stop, a Jeffersontown Narcotics K-9 unit was called to the scene and “alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.”

Police said officers searched the vehicle and found approximately seven ounces of cocaine and more than $100,000 in cash.

The driver, Daniel Avila Huerta, and his passenger, Jose Emilio Moreno, were arrested at the scene and booked into Louisville Metro Corrections. They are accused of cocaine trafficking.

“This traffic stop highlights the vital role our officers and K-9 units play in protecting our community from illegal drugs,” Sanders said in a written statement. “We are committed to maintaining the safety and security of our streets and will continue to take decisive action against those who engage in drug trafficking.”

The arrests come just one day after Jeffersontown police arrested four men as part of an undercover drug operation involving the DEA and LMPD. Police seized 31 pounds of methamphetamine and 11 pounds of fentanyl pills from that bus and arrested four St. Louis men.
