Miami Hurricanes guard Kyshawn George receives invitation to NBA Draft Green room

By Jonathan Givony of ESPN in an X post Friday “Miami winger Kyshawn George received an invitation to the green room to attend the NBA draft with his family, a source told ESPN. George quickly rose to the NBA draft boards after one season with the Miami Hurricanes basketball program.

George is one of 20 NBA draft prospects who were invited to the green room. By ESPN “The Green Room is a staging area in front of the NBA Draft podium where players, families and agents wait for Commissioner Adam Silver to call a player’s name during selection.”

George grew about five inches to 6’8 between Miami moving him out of Switzerland in the spring of 2023. George averaged 7.6 points per game, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, 40.8 percent on three-point attempts and 77.8 percent on free throws.

George is currently 19th overall on the ESPN NBA draft board and the fifth-ranked shooting guard. Hoops Hype likes the guard skills George brings at 6’8. George’s weaknesses as stated by Hoops Hype are a lack of quickness and the fact that he needs to improve his “ball control and decision making.”

George improved significantly as a rookie in his ranking where he signed with Miami. The 247Sports composite rankings had George as the 259th prospect and 35th shooting guard in the 2025 class. George played in 30 games with 16 starts in his lone season with Miami.

George scored in double figures 12 times during the 2023-24 season and became Miami’s first freshman to score more than 20 points since Isaiah Wong in 2020. Miami did not have a player selected first round of the NBA draft since Lonnie Walker. IV went 18th to San Antonio in 2018.

Only five Miami players were selected in the first round of the NBA draft. Before Walker IV, Shane Larkin was chosen 18th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2013, John Salmons 26th by San Antonio in 2003, Tim James 25th by the Heat in 1999 and Rick Barry fourth by the San Francisco Warriors in 1965.

Although Miami missed the NCAA Tournament after back-to-back deep runs in 2022 and 2023, George’s selection in the first round of the NBA draft will be a good selling point for Jim Larranaga and his team. Freshman Jailil Bethea is expected to be a lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
