Stéphanie Vaquer is ready to break down the forbidden door

It may not be wise for Mercedes Moné to underestimate her next TBS title challenger, as Stephanie Vaquer has plenty of accolades of her own.

At the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door show, TBS Champion Mercedes Moné will face NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer in a title for title match. Although Mercedes currently holds a decisive victory over Stephanie, a lot has changed since their first meeting.

Brief history of Stéphanie Vaquer

Hailing from San Fernando, Chile, “La Primera” Stephanie Vaquer has nearly 15 years of professional wrestling experience under her belt. As of this writing, she is the three-belt reigning champion. Stephanie holds the CMLL Women’s World Championship and half of the CMLL Women’s World Tag Team Championship in her home promotion, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. In NJPW, however, she dethroned former champion Giulia to become the NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion at Korakuen Hall in March. Since then, Stephanie has successfully defended her titles against AZM, Alex Windsor, La Catalina and La Jarochita.

As a CMLL competitor, Stephanie Vaquer is no stranger to the lucha libre style of wrestling. She also has a mix of technical arsenal on the mat with daredevil high-flying maneuvers to surprise her opponents. Wrestling fans who might be interested in seeing his work can watch highlights of his match on CMLL’s YouTube.

Stephanie also competed in the one-night tournament to cap off the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship at NJPW Resurgence. However, she lost to Mercedes Moné in the first round in a very competitive match.

Next match of the Forbidden Gate

Now, the two will meet again in singles more than a year after their first meeting. Stephanie Vaquer made an even bigger name for herself competing outside of CMLL, primarily on NJPW STRONG shows in the United States. Can Stephanie get revenge and finally defeat Mercedes, or will CEO stay on top with the newly won NJPW gold at La Primera?
