Neighborhood residents with paid parking for the event greeted visitors with a lemonade stand

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – It’s the second weekend of events at Kyle Field, with nearby neighborhoods open to paid parking.

This new program tested by the city of College Station began with the football game and continued during the George Strait concert to offer participants additional options. The streets of the Southside Historic District, located directly across from Kyle Field, slowly filled up Saturday.

This option costs $25 through ParkMobile. Among those who use neighborhood streets for parking, residents say they are ready to welcome visitors.

“My grandbaby said she wanted to make a lemonade stand, so we decided to make one today to help people who are walking cool down,” Dastashta Rushin said.

The city imposing paid parking in the neighborhood has been a subject of controversy for some. This has forced some residents to find different places to park to avoid parking fees or fines at events. Rushin says her family had to find alternative options during this time, but she made the most of it with the stand located on Montclair Avenue, along with the paid parking options.

“$3 for a cup of lemonade and $2 for water. Come to P’s lemonade stand,” she said.

Many walking neighbors and visitors who had parked in the area for the concert stopped by to drink lemonade throughout the day.

Neighborhood parking is a pilot program, it is unknown if it will be available for future Kyle Field events.
