Amy Dowden has been flooded with support from fans after completing her Coppa Feel run – on the day she was awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honors. The BBC Strictly Come Dancing star addressed the honor on Instagram in a statement.

She wrote: “I’m still in shock, but so honored to have been appointed Amy Dowden MBE. I will always continue to campaign to raise awareness and funds for research into this terrible chronic illness. I would like to take advantage of This opportunity to thank all the wonderful NHS staff who have helped me over the years and @crohnsandcolitisuk who do so much to support other sufferers.”

Amy previously posted from the side of a mountain, writing: “Love, admiration, respect, the list goes on and on for Wonder Woman @mrsgifletcher. Exactly two years ago she made me do some trekking, a year later I had a mastectomy, then a year later with a new breast, a new body and a new full circle me, I walked again with #teamamy for @coppafeel.

“With the beautiful soul Gi and charity that allowed me to correct my lump. Exactly the goal that @howtoglitteraturd set for #checkyourchest. I am forever and always grateful and will continue to raise awareness and walk for you two @coppafeel @mrsgifletcher.

“Gi is truly one of a kind. I’ve raised over 4 million so far for @coppafeel, but she’s also someone so passionate about raising awareness. Yesterday she knew I was struggling . She knew when I just needed to put my head down, when I needed distraction, the touch of a shoulder, a hand to hold and someone to cry with, I love you so much Gi xxx.

“Last week I had time to reflect on the last two years, I had a team of the most incredible women whose stories will stay with me forever along with our friendship. Amazing fellow team leaders @ harryjudd @faye__winter @candicebrown, @charity.challenge, our floats, @erinmwj, @gkx_carlos and @saradaviescc.

“I love you and am grateful to you all. But @mrsgifletcher continues to save lives, your incredible gi hikes not only raise funds and awareness but make such a difference to these hikers who all have their own story and reason to hike and their own journey. All needing this trek for their own reason but all seen, heard, supported and loved. This week has been the hardest for me mentally, physically but most of all. emotionally and I didn’t realize how much I needed it!
