SJC fire chief shares condolences after lieutenant and wife found dead in apparent murder-suicide

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL. – St. Johns County Fire Chief Sean McGee shared his condolences Saturday after a lieutenant and his wife were found dead inside their home in what the sheriff’s office called a murder -suicide.

SJCFR Lt. Shawn Yarbrough and his wife Andrea Yarbrough were found shot to death Thursday evening around 9:20 p.m. at their home in the Entrada subdivision off County Road 207 near Wildwood Drive.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the shooting and autopsies were performed.

The SJSO ruled Andrea Yarbrough’s death a homicide and Shawn Yarbrough’s death a suicide.

A neighbor told News4JAX the couple’s children were not in the house at the time of the shooting.

Another neighbor shared kind things about the couple and said he was shocked to learn what happened.

“They are really nice people and really laid back. Just really genuine people. I didn’t know them very well,” the neighbor said. “It’s crazy to think that this happened.”

Fire Chief McGee issued the following statement Saturday:

The cause of the shooting remains under investigation.

The sheriff’s office said it believed this was an “isolated tragic incident.”
