EastEnders star Kellie Bright has provided fans with a positive update, after sharing an emotional message online about her son, who has special educational needs (SEN).

The actress, who plays Linda Carter in the BBC soap, said in November that she struggled to get an educational healthcare assessment (EHC) for her son and spoke about the long and difficult process.

However, Bright has now posted another video on Instagram, giving fans and other parents a much more positive update.

“I was meaning to post a little update here on our SEN/ECHP journey,” she began. “And I’m thrilled to share with you – thrilled is a really lame word for how amazing it is – as of February 6, 2024, my son officially got his educational health care plan.

“Once the assessment actually started, the process was pretty quick because I suddenly felt like people were on our side and I didn’t have to fight as much as I had actually (At a meeting), we were in a room together and I suddenly realized that everyone was on my son’s side, and it was huge.

“Posting this is weird because I know so many families are still trying to get theirs, fighting the fight of their lives. I feel incredibly lucky that we have it, which isn’t right. I shouldn’t not feel like I’m lucky, but I have it. I know it’s not a golden ticket, but it helps, it really helps.

Bright also took the time in her post to make a promise to those who are going through something similar with their own children.

She said: “The response to my last video has been so overwhelming and extraordinary, and has surprised me a bit, to be honest. But I promise I’m going to keep talking about it and I’m going to talk much, much louder. like really strong.

“I promise I’m going to continue this conversation and I’m going to use my voice to make all of us heard. And I really admire these parents who are leading the fight, raising awareness and refusing to be silent. So here I am, listening, I hear you, I see you, I am one of you and I am with you.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on BBC One. The show is also broadcast on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes are broadcast early at 6am before their television broadcast.
