Gudahl ties for 27th place at State Golf Meet | News, Sports, Jobs

Senior Payten Gudahl sank her final putt of the Minnesota State Class AA golf championship and moments later she was hugging her mother in an emotional hug.

“I think it hits you when you realize it’s over, that you’re done. » Shanna Gudahl, Payten’s mother, said.

This was Gudahl’s third appearance in the state tournament. She finished the rain-shortened competition in a four-way tie for 27th place. Gudahl’s teammate, Katelyn Storbeck, finished three strokes behind Gudahl in a four-way tie for 34th place.

Rain forced the cancellation of the final nine holes last Wednesday, so instead of a 36-hole tournament, the tournament became a 27-hole tournament.

Gudahl shot a 44-41-85 on the first day of the tournament. The state meet was held at Ridges at Sand Creek Golf Course in Jordan on June 11-12. She birdied hole No. 3 and aced holes No. 1, 10, 11, 14, 17 and 18.

Over his final nine holes, Gudahl aced the 10th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 18th holes while recording a score of 42 for a two-day total of 127.

In Gudahl’s previous trips to the state golf tournament, she finished in 62nd place as a sophomore and 46th place as a junior last year.

It was Storbeck’s second trip to the state tournament. Two years ago, when she was in eighth grade, she finished in 70th place.

Storbeck shot a 42 on the front and back nine to finish the first day of the tournament with an 84. Her round included birdies on the first, seventh and 11th holes while she pared holes Nos. 4, 10 and 15 .

Storbeck shot a 46 on the second day of the tournament to finish with a score of 130. She aced holes Nos. 10, 12, 15 and 18 in her final round.

Jordana Windhorst Knudsen of Lake City was the tournament medalist with a score of 114. She edged Kelby Anderson of International Falls and Elizabeth Fong of Holy Angels Academy by one shot.

The Detroit Lakes won the team portion of the tournament with a score of 486. Lake City finished second with 499.
