The Minister of Health assures that health care services offered in clinics will be improved to ease pressure on hospitals

The Minister of Health, Dr. Christopher Tufton, assured that the government is taking steps to improve services offered in primary health centers, or clinics, so that more patients can receive treatment there and reduce the burden on hospitals .

The issue was raised last night, during a live social media forum about accident and emergency services and how these units operate.

Head of Accident and Emergency Department of Bustamante Children’s Hospital, Dr. Mara Hosang was the guest presenter.

In response to questions from the audience, Dr. Hosang expressed the need for clinics to have extended opening hours so that people can receive treatment, especially at night.

The minister accepted the suggestion to extend opening hours and stressed that the government would soon launch a primary health care reform project.

This reform will seek to resolve problems in clinics by including the provision of more doctors and more resources, to facilitate more care offers.
