Coronation Street star Kate Ford breaks silence on Tracy affair story

Coronation Street star Kate Ford has broken her silence on the Tracy Barlow affair story.

Fans of the soap will know that former footballer Tommy Orpington (played by Matt Milburn) returned to the soap on Christmas Day 2023 and was subsequently employed by Tracy (Ford) to decorate his bedroom.

Over the past week, Tracy and Tommy have grown closer, and in scenes set to air next week, the pair will share a kiss.

Speaking to the Mirror about the new storyline, Kate said: “It’s not easy to embrace Tracy’s sexy side – it’s difficult for a 46-year-old woman. I have to be honest, I think that it’s a lot less difficult to play in your thirties… I try not to be too vampy with it, because that would be a bit too much.

Despite the nervousness over the intimate scenes, Kate said: “I haven’t had a script as meaty as this in quite a long time.

She continued: “Simon and I haven’t done a kissing scene in about 10 years, so I was a little nervous. There’s this first thing like, ‘Oh, my God, I don’t know this person that for five days, that’s it.’ kind of weird.’ Once it’s done, it feels good but I had to step out of my comfort zone a little.”

Opening up about why Tracy was looking for excitement outside of her marriage, Kate said Tracy was disappointed when Steve gave her a neck pillow for her birthday.

“Massively disappointed, she looks at him and thinks, ‘I’m done with this.’ Is this what I’m worth to you, a heating bag you bought yesterday at the garden center? How old do you think I am? ?’ It’s a turning point. She realizes how fed up she is with her life.

She continued: “She’s ruthless and brutal. Tommy is handsome. He’s got a bit of glamor as an ex-footballer and she likes him. She’s like, ‘God, yeah, I’m really bored,’ is amusing !'”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and is broadcast on ITVX.
