Jonathan Smith and the Spartans give edge to edge rusher Konstantin Paschos

Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith has left no stone unturned in an attempt to improve the Spartans’ roster of signees in 2025. Coach Smith and his coaching staff have taken the last few weeks to focus on repairing their roster for the upcoming season after losing nearly 20 players to the transfer portal.

Smith and the Spartans successfully used the transfer portal to replenish the talent they lost there. Michigan State would finish with one of the best transfer portal classes in the country in 2024. While it has caught up admirably, the mad rush to recruit talent for the upcoming season has undoubtedly sidetracked the attention of future recruiting classes.

Smith continues to think outside the box. He and his coaching staff recently decided to offer a scholarship to edge rusher Konstantin Paschos. The talented edge rusher is a 6-foot-7, 240-pound native of Wallingford, Conn., who moved to Connecticut from Germany when he was younger.

Paschos announced the offer on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Spartans’ roster is relatively set for this season. However, they still have one of the worst 2025 recruiting classes in the Big Ten, if not the country. In the same way they made up ground in the transfer portal, Smith and his coaching staff hope to experience a similar turnaround with the 2025 recruiting class.

Paschos is a smart player on the field and a smart student in the classroom. According to 247Sports, he received more than 20 scholarship offers, including a few from Ivy League schools.

Like Smith and Michigan State, June was a busy month for Paschos. He received more than 15 offers last week alone.

Paschos was excited about the offer from Smith and Michigan State.

“The Michigan State offer means a lot to me,” Paschos said. Corey Robinson from 247Sports. “When I first started playing football, my coach was a huge Michigan State fan, and he kind of introduced me to the sport.”

As Michigan State continues Smith’s tenure in East Lansing, Coach Smith is betting on himself and his coaching staff to help develop talent at all levels once they sign with Michigan State. As Michigan State finishes off a busy June, Coach Smith and his coaching staff will likely continue to have long, busy months until the end of the season.
