Quickly cool a stuffy room with this expert-approved Vornado air circulator

Welcome to summer, the season of unmissable sales and heat waves. We know: one is infinitely more exciting than the other, but there is a way to get the most out of the latter: by investing in cooling products like fans. Experts say an air circulation fan should be at the top of your list, and one pro says this one from Vornado is among his favorites for cooling a hot room in no time.

We recently spoke with a few experts about what fans they recommend for circulating air in a stuffy room, and all agreed that a fan is the way to go. Josh Mitchell, HVAC technician and founder of Air Conditioner Lab, says that unlike traditional fans, air circulation fans “keep the air in a room moving continuously, helping to maintain a more even temperature.” In other words, it’s exactly what we want in the summer, when the heat seems to come from every direction.

While there are tons of air circulation fans out there, there is one brand recommended by Derek Gaughan, residential air quality expert and founder of Air Koality: Vornado.

He says the brand’s air circulators “stand out for their ability to move air throughout the room,” echoing Mitchell. “These fans are versatile for year-round use, improving air circulation and supplementing heating systems in winter, thanks to their aerodynamic design which includes features such as bladed ducts and deep pitch properties .”

The Vornado 630 Mid-Size Whole Room Air Circulation Fan is Gaughan’s favorite “reasonably priced” choice and, based on over 7,000 buyer reviews, he’s not the only one who thinks that the investment is worth it. Owners say it’s portable and easy to fit in tight spaces, but still manages to pack a punch thanks to its three speeds. Additionally, thanks to its adjustable tilt head, it distributes cool air throughout the room, allowing the space to cool faster, longer and more evenly.

Why crank up expensive air conditioning when this compact air circulator can keep you cool? (Amazon)

These fans “are small and lightweight, but have plenty of airflow and are incredibly effective at cooling a room quickly,” said one five-star reviewer. “I haven’t had any problems since purchasing a few for my home, it has definitely reduced the need for air conditioning on the hottest days and nights.”

Another buyer said the first thing you’ll notice about the fan is “how compact it is” – a feature that thousands of buyers love because it’s easy to transport from room to room. “Despite its size, it’s pretty damn powerful. And the circulation is excellent, even at the lowest of its three settings.”

Another advantage? Buyers say this fan couldn’t be more different from its annoyingly noisy competitors. “This little fan is so quiet and cools my entryway and small living room,” wrote one five-star reviewer. “I like that it’s lightweight and the angle is adjustable…The small amount of noise is gentle and works well if you like ‘white noise’.”

A few buyers expressed some minor drawbacks. One of the most common: “(There is) no remote control,” wrote one. Others added that “the design makes cleaning difficult,” especially when the blades get dusty over time. “That’s the one thing I can’t stand about traditional fans,” one critic pointed out.

Believe it or not, this compact fan can move air up to 70 feet. An airflow pattern called Vortex Action circulates all the air in the room to keep you cool from different angles. Pretty cool – literally.

Want a bigger fan? You are lucky. Vornado offers two height-adjustable air circulators.

This model is height adjustable, from 28 inches to 40 inches. It has the same swivel head and three-speed controls as the 630.

“The fan can circulate a large amount of air in a room without blowing it in a concentrated direction,” said one buyer. “It’s perfect for those who want to cool a room without feeling a strong gust of air on them.”

If you want more speed options, this may be your best choice. It has 99 speeds – yes, 99 – and the height can be adjusted from 25 to 38 inches.

“Moves a large volume of air quietly. …The fan is so efficient that I usually set the speed to half speed, so it’s almost unnoticeable,” said one buyer. “No complaints about this fan. It’s worth the price.”
