Clarksville Now an All-Area Softball Team: See the Selections and Player of the Year

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Softball in Montgomery County this year was electric, to say the least. Divided into several districts, it was a very competitive year, which included the introduction of a new high school team into the mix. Now it’s time to honor players representing Montgomery County schools with the 2024 Clarksville Now Interregional Softball Team and Player of the Year.

There are a wide variety of talented individuals that make up every high school team, but these players stand out above the rest. All statistics were provided by Clarksville area coaches.

Charis Nichols: senior, Clarksville High School – The CHS Wildcats were counting on Nichols to be their ace in big games throughout 2023-24, and Nichols delivered. The Vol-State signee pitched 107 innings, earning a 2.49 ERA and amassing 84 strikeouts. Not only that, but Nichols was a solid offensive bat with a .352 batting average, 29 RBIS on 31 hits, as well as a .440 on-base percentage.

Carlie Sheets: Senior, Clarksville High – Meanwhile, the King University signee was another offensive weapon for the Wildcats last season. The first baseman hit .410 with a .540 on-base percentage. She also collected 45 RBIs on 41 hits, while collecting 6 home runs.

Abby Khamphengphet: Senior, Montgomery Central – The Indians infielder has been consistent all year for his team in 2023-24. Khamphengphet held a batting average of .447 with an OPS of 1.217. She also totaled 21 hits and 17 RBIs, as well as 2 home runs.

Taila Brandt: Senior, West Creek High – The Coyotes catcher was successful offensively, posting a .409 batting average with a .500 on-base percentage. In addition, the senior collected 17 RBIs, as well as 4 home runs.

Aniya Sims: Junior, West Creek High School – The Coyotes shortstop was another force at the plate for West Creek High. She compiled a .354 average with a .508 on-base percentage. In addition to his consistency at the plate, Sims also scored 19 runs and stole 14 bases.

Maddie Ratcliff: Junior, Kirkwood High – Ratcliff’s two-way prowess helped lead the Cobras to success in their first year of existence. At the plate, the junior hit .475 with a .542 on-base percentage, while tallying 23 RBIs. On the mound, Ratcliff pitched 61.0 innings and struck out 64 batters.

Kennedy Scott: Junior, Rossview High – Scott played a crucial role in Rossview High’s playoff success. At the plate, Scott had a .400 batting average and a .465 on-base percentage. She also collected 36 hits and 9 home runs during the year.

Madelyn Fillers: Junior, Rossview High – Fillers was a consistent two-way force for the Hawks in 2023-24. At the plate, the Fillers collected 40 hits, 5 home runs, a .455 batting average and a .520 on-base percentage. On the mound, Fillers had an 8-4 record, a 2.44 ERA and struck out 54 batters.

Kinglsey Bell: sophomore, Clarksville Academy – Bell demonstrated offensive consistency throughout last year’s season, which included a .404 batting average. She was also successful on the mound, pitching 89 innings and recording 47 strikeouts.

Alexa Bertelsmann: Sophomore, Clarksville Academy – Another player who shined for the Cougars in the 2024 season was Bertelsmann. The sophomore had a .387 average and a .667 slugging percentage, while tallying 27 RBIs.

McKenzie Quick: Sophomore, Rossview High- Quick’s offensive firepower was crucial in the Hawks’ district championship run. The sophomore had a .471 batting average, 40 hits, and an on-base percentage of .531.

Clarksville now player of the year

Player of the Year: Aree Collins: Senior, Clarksville High – Shortstop and pitcher were a two-way force for Clarksville High in 2023-24. The Tennessee State signee had a .429 batting average, had 33 RBIs on 39 hits, along with 7 home runs and a .609 on-base percentage. As for his production on defense, Collins pitched 41 innings, amassing a 6-2 record, with a 1.70 ERA. She also struck out 57 batters.

Offensive Player of the Year: Addison Beech: Senior, Montgomery Central – Beech was an all-around offensive sparkplug for the Indians. The Walters State signee hit .606, totaling 43 hits, scoring 32 runs and she stole 19 bases. Beech had a 23-game hitting streak last season, dating back to the 2022-23 season.

Pitcher of the Year: Avery Rauscher: Junior, Rossview High – As the Hawks’ ace, Rauscher made several key plays, including warming up at just the right time to lead the Hawks to a district championship. The junior compiled 100.2 innings pitched, while earning a 1.80 ERA. Rauscher allowed just a .135 batting average and struck out 175 batters.

Freshman: Ava Ahern: Freshman, Clarksville High – Ahern was both a versatile defender and consistent hitter for the Wildcats. The freshman hit for a .355 average with a .456 on-base percentage. She also totaled 22 RBIs, as well as 4 home runs in 2023-2024.
