The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are ready for their moment.

Before the series premiere America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleadersthe stars of the new series sat down with ET to discuss the return of a popular TV series concept and, hopefully, the same treatment as Netflix’s. Acclamation docuseries received.

“We’re ready to respond to what people want,” veteran DCC team member Victoria Kalina said of the possibility of doing more seasons based on the series’ popularity.

Kalina and her co-star Kelcey Wetterberg are both alums of Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team, the hugely popular series that documented the audition process to become a member of Team DCC. The show, which aired on CMT for 16 seasons, ended in 2021.

Newcomer Reece Allman told ET that while she’s excited for the world to see the show and recognize all the hard work it took to be a member of one of the most infamous cheerleading squads in history, she feels still pines for just being a cowboy. Cheerleader.

“It’s so surreal – I feel like that’s the word I’ve used throughout this year. And I tell Kelcey and Victoria all the time, that just being their teammate is a huge honor.”

She added of her co-stars and crew members: “I got to watch them and see them grow, see their dream come to life, so it’s been a huge honor and a privilege and I’m so grateful to be here.”

Kelli Finglass, longtime DCC director and former pom-pom holder herself, shared that while many may wonder why now was the right time to revive the team, she believes fans “have a such appetite for this show”, and especially the new way of proceeding.

“Knowing these ladies on our previous show, it was much more about competition and people loved that. They loved seeing the judges — they love being judges, being critics,” Finglass told ET. “But this group of women has so much more to offer than the competition itself: these are their real experiences and their lives beyond the audition.”

While the original CMT series closely followed the process of auditioning to become a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, America’s Lovers talks more about the lives of the 36 team members on and off the field, Netflix said.

“America’s Lovers documents the personal stories behind the uniforms, revealing the ambition and drive shared by cheerleaders and their coaches throughout the 2023-2024 season,” the streaming service shared in a statement earlier this year.

Finglass agrees, sharing that part of the reason she was eager to put cameras back on her crew of three dozen women is because there are more stories to tell on multiple levels.

“The audition ends in June, we have a season through December, January and February depending on the playoffs. So the new tone is people already love the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, now they can meeting individuals in a very intimate way.” » said the team director.

Judy Trammell, the team’s choreographer, echoed Finglass’ statement, saying that above all else, she was excited for fans to get a better look at the team.

“The show passed, it stopped at the auditions and who was eliminated and here are the 36 women (who made the team) but it didn’t show – as she said – the things that we would do the rest of the year – the USO Tours, the Veterans Hospital visits, the Children’s Hospital visits,” Trammell explained. “We’re doing more than we’ve ever seen.”
