Free Summer Sketching Program at Spectrum offered on 3 select Sundays through August

RACINE — The Spectrum School of the Arts and Community Gallery has partnered with Urban Sketchers Racine to bring summer sketching to Spectrum. This program will be held in the East Building of the DeKoven Center, 2000 Wisconsin Ave., according to a June 17 news release.

What to expect during Summer Sketching at Spectrum

“Adults and children (ages 9 and up) are invited to bring their choice of drawing materials and meet in the gallery to meet some “sketch guides” who will show them different places to draw inside and outside on DeKoven Field,” the release read.

Additional materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own drawing materials.

Program dates and times

  • June 23: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • July 28: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • August 25: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This program is a prelude to Sketch Racine 2024, as well as the Spectrum Gallery’s special Sketcher’s Exhibit, which will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 7.

Root Sketch 2024

This weekend-long event from September 6-8 takes participants throughout Racine County. Participants will visit locations such as the Eco-Justice Center, 7133 Michna Road and the Racine Harbor Overlook to gain inspiration for their artwork.

There will also be food at several locations, including pizza, tapas and Kringle. Vegan and gluten-free options will be available, according to the event website.

Registration for this event costs $75 per person, with an additional $25 fee to purchase a themed T-shirt, the website states.

This group was created in June 2022 for Racine and Kenosha residents to share artwork inspired by their cities, according to their Facebook page.
