Two-story painted brick home offering 3,200 square feet of space

Abigail and Phillip Anton were looking to move from their first home to one with more square footage, storage and a larger yard for their chocolate Labrador, Clyde. They called on Charles Harris, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Collins-Maury.

“Working with Charles was very easy,” Abigail said. “He handled all the details of the closing very professionally and made the process smooth for us.”

The Antons’ list of requirements included finding a spacious home with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. They wanted at least the master bathroom to be renovated already. They also wanted a large outdoor living space, with room for a backyard pool.

“We looked at about 15 different properties,” Phillip recalls. “We found what we were looking for in the Kirby Woods neighborhood of East Memphis.”

The charming two-story painted brick house, c. 1966, was expanded from its original footprint with renovations in 2002 and 2019. These renovations included an updated master bathroom. There were other improvements that sealed the deal for the Antons. There was a home gym, workshop and large changing room with built-in storage compartments and shelving.

The kitchen was remodeled with all white cabinets, black counters and a white subway tile backsplash. The stainless steel appliances were new, and a peninsula, rather than an island, provided additional storage space.

Outside there was more than just a spacious garden. There was a sunroom with a fireplace and skylights that gave the feel of an outdoor living room, perfect for entertaining.

Abigail and Phillip paid $535,000 for approximately 3,200 square feet of living space. The home’s listing called it an “Artist’s Delight” because of the fluidity of the floor plan. The house had everything the couple hoped to find in their new home. And the house had a fenced yard located on a half-acre lot. The yard was landscaped lushly and was equipped with an irrigation system for ease of maintenance.

“We liked that there was a formal living room and a cozy living room with a gas fireplace,” Abigail said. “The master bedroom was large and had its own sitting area. There was a home office and two more bedrooms downstairs. Upstairs had a bonus room and access to two walk-in attics, as well as a cedar closet. The two-car garage, complete with two charging outlets, also housed a fully heated and cooled workshop. Plus, this home comes with a whole house generator, something we’ve never had before, but know that it will come in handy with all the storms coming through the Memphis area.

“This house is different from our old house in that it has a lot more storage and updated renovations,” Phillip said. “Plus, this home has two stories, walk-in attics, both offering much more storage and more space for our family to grow. As for changes we are considering in the future, we plan to replace carpeted areas with hardwood floors and add a backyard pool.

“For us, this house just made sense,” Abigail said. “We love mature trees, we have lovely neighbors, and we feel like a safe, centrally located community for everything we do.”
