Bayern Munich board vetoes Max Eberl’s contract offer for Alphonso Davies

Bayern Munich board vetoes Max Eberl’s contract offer for Alphonso Davies

Alphonso Davies’ contractual saga at Bayern Munich took a new twist last week. Bayern are prepared to allow Davies to start next season with 12 months remaining on his contract. The Canadian full-back can negotiate with interested clubs during the winter transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Max Eberl has reached an agreement with Davies’ representatives regarding a new contract. Eberl had improved the offer made in March. He offered a salary of between 14 and 16 million euros with a significant hiring bonus. Davies had accepted this offer, but the board refused to sanction this contract offer.

Bayern are prepared to risk losing Davies on a free transfer next summer. Despite a contract impasse, Bayern and Vincent Kompany view Davies as a crucial player for next season. Things could change next season, and a contract renewal for the Canadian left-back is not completely ruled out.

Real Madrid reportedly had a verbal agreement on two possible contracts with Davies. The Spanish club are keen to sign Davies when his contract at Bayern expires. They will have this opportunity next summer since Bayern let the situation escalate.

Davies will attract interest from other big clubs if he ends his contract at Bayern. Despite an indifferent campaign, Davies remains one of the best left-backs in Europe. He achieved a lot with Bayern even before entering the peak years of his career.

Kompany is said to be a great admirer of Davies. The Belgian wants Davies to stay at Munich, leading to speculation that Bayern will not push the Canadian defender out the door this summer. Unless Real Madrid or another interested club makes a mammoth offer for Davies, he will likely stay in Munich for next season.

Bayern have identified AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as Davies’ replacement in case a transfer goes through this summer. The French full-back is ready to join Bayern, but negotiations have not yet taken place between the two clubs. Bayern could return for Hernandez next summer when Davies leaves Munich on a free transfer.

The Bavarian club is currently working on returns. They landed the signing of Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart last week to strengthen the defense. Die Roten are also working on deals to sign Jonathan Tah and Joao Palhinha, while they have also contacted Crystal Palace to explore a move for Michael Olise. Bayern want to conclude most of their transfer deals before the start of pre-season training.
