NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining “silent” on the NEET exam issue and asserted that his party was committed to raising the voice of the youth from the streets to Parliament to ensure strong policies against paper leaks.

The former Congress president said the arrests made in Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana clearly show that there was organized corruption in the exam in a planned manner and added that these states run by the BJP have become the “epicenter” of paper leaks.

“Narendra Modi, as usual, remains silent over the tampering of the future of over 24 lakh students in the NEET exam,” Gandhi said in an article on X in Hindi.

In the manifesto, the Congress had guaranteed to secure the future of the youth by enacting strict laws against paper leaks.

“While taking responsibility for the opposition, we are committed to formulating such tough policies by strongly raising the voices of young people from the streets to Parliament and putting pressure on the government,” he said.

Gandhi’s remarks came after a Supreme Court vacation bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti told lawyers for the Center and the National Testing Agency (NTA) that if there was “0.001 percent of negligence” on the part of anyone in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, it needs to be addressed thoroughly.

Observing that students have to work hard to prepare for these exams, the apex court said the NEET-UG 2024 exam dispute should not be treated as adversarial.

NTA conducts the pre-medical entrance test all over India.

The court was hearing two separate petitions raising grievances, including on grace notes granted to students to the exam held on May 5.
