Meet Paw Paw’s Top Graduates: Smith & Kerns

Paw Paw High School’s Class of 2024 celebrated their graduation with commencement ceremonies at the school on May 24. The top graduates in the class shared their accomplishments and plans for the future.

Valedictorian, Miah Smith

Miah Smith

Miah Elizabeth Smith, valedictorian of Paw Paw High School, has lived in Paw Paw for 10 years. She is the daughter of Lloyd and Jaimie Smith and the sister of William Smith. She has achieved many academic achievements, including taking honors courses, serving as class representative to the student council, president of the National Honor Society, and president of the senior class. Miah plays an important role in her community. She volunteered at several blood drives, worked at alumni dinners, attended numerous PTO events, and volunteered as a teacher’s aide every day after she finished classes. Miah is also an all-season athlete. She plays volleyball in the fall, cheers in the winter and runs track and field in the spring. This year, Miah was one of the captains of the volleyball team, she was captain of the cheerleaders and she represented Paw Paw schools at the national track meet where she was one of the finalists in the vault. length. This fall, Miah will attend West Virginia University to major in biology. After graduation, she plans to attend medical school at West Virginia University and become an oncologist.

Salutatorian, Karynn Kerns

Karynn Denise Kerns

Paw Paw High School salutatorian Karynn Denise Kerns has been attending Paw Paw schools since kindergarten. She is an accomplished student and decorated athlete. During her high school years, she won sports awards in volleyball such as “Most Kills of 39”, All PVC Division 2, and “Most Defensive Points of 88”. She excelled academically and took advanced courses, which allowed her to study full-time at Allegany College of Maryland during her senior year. Karynn has proven herself to be a leader, an organized worker, and someone who shines in everything she does.
