Kansas City Chiefs fans shocked and angered by massive update on possible relocation

The Kansas City Chiefs could cross the border after a vote in the Kansas House on Tuesday.

The Chiefs, who currently play in Jackson County, Missouri, were denied aid from the county as well as the Kansas City Royals. Now, the Kansas House has easily passed a bill that would fund both teams.

The Kansas City Chiefs were asked to fund their own stadium renovations if they wanted to stay in Missouri.

The Kansas City Chiefs and president/co-owner Clark Hunt were essentially asked to finance the renovation of their own stadium if they wanted to stay on the Missouri side of the border.

Jackson County voters voted against a sales tax that would have funded the renovation in question, but the Kansas Senate is the only obstacle to a similar bill funding new stadiums for the Royals and Chiefs.

According to Forbes, the Hunt family as a whole has a net worth of $24.8 billion, which is more than enough to personally finance any renovations they deem necessary. Either way, they will have no problem crossing the border if the government agrees to fund a stadium for them.

In a Mirror article, Hunt threatened to explore other options.

“Stadium development projects simply take a long time and I don’t want to give a precise number, but with only six and a half years of lease we are going to have to work very hard for next year, a year and a half for see if we can find an option.

“We will approach the issue from a broader perspective in the future because we are running out of time at this point and so we need to see what other options are available to us,” the Chiefs chairman said.

The Kansas City Chiefs are stuck in Missouri until at least 2030

Regardless of how the bills turn out for the Kansas City Chiefs, they’re stuck in Missouri until 2030. While they could still work out a deal with Kansas State in the meantime, their lease with Missouri runs until 2030.

The Chiefs are one of the few NFL teams with the opportunity to hold their state hostage with exponentially minimized risk of angering their core fans. They can hold the state they’re currently in hostage, with the threat of moving a negligible distance from their hometown fans.

A team like the St. Louis Rams ended up moving to an entirely different part of the country, alienating fans from their Midwestern hometown. The Chiefs can now move to a place where the government will provide them with funding while fans from their Midwestern hometown can still easily attend games no matter which side of the border they are on.

Fans are angry that the government is helping billionaires like Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.

Even though many Kansas City Chiefs fans are happy that the Chiefs are not moving across the country, many fans believe that approaching government aid to billionaires is unethical.

Many fans cite other areas where Kansas could use funds allocated to build new sports stadiums as reasons why the government shouldn’t help. The counterargument suggests that stadiums generate an influx of revenue from fans and the economic vitality to which they yield.
