Koenigsegg asks Jesko owners to stop driving after fire

If you own a Koenigsegg Jesko, now might not be the day to test drive it.

The Swedish automaker has asked owners of the $3 million supercar to park it for the foreseeable future, according to multiple media outlets. The reason: the company wants to understand why one of the vehicles caught fire in Greece this weekend.

On Saturday morning, a video began circulating online showing the Jesko (not the one pictured above) engulfed in flames on the side of the road near the town of Marousi, according to Motor1.com. The vehicle, which had taken part in the Six2Six Europe Tour supercar rally, was traveling at low speed (although there are conflicting reports that it was being driven aggressively) when the fire broke out. The driver and his passenger were able to escape without injuries, but the car was not so lucky. By the time emergency crews put out the fire, the only identifiable parts remaining of the Jesko were its tires.

Following the incident, Koenigsegg issued a No Driving Order (DNDO) for owners of the brand’s flagship model, according to Egg Registry. The order, sent by email, informed them of what had happened and asked them not to drive the vehicle until the cause of the fire could be determined.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we are asking all Jesko owners and drivers not to drive their cars until we have had the opportunity to better understand the situation,” Koenigsegg’s email reportedly read.

Koenigsegg did not immediately respond to a Robb Report request for comment Tuesday morning.

One would imagine that the owner of the Jesko, an unidentified Spaniard, is happy that they and their passenger escaped the frightening incident unscathed. That said, they’re probably also worried about the loss of the supercar. Egg Directory identifies the example as the Jesko NÜR Edition, a bespoke creation featuring an exposed carbon fiber finish that adds $443,400 to the hypercar’s already exorbitant price tag. To make matters worse, the owner reportedly only took possession of the car a few weeks ago and only has 100 miles on the odometer.

To date, Koenigsegg has only built 28 examples of the Jesko, which features a rear-mid-mounted twin-turbo V8 producing 1,280 hp. It plans to build just 125 before the vehicle’s production ends.
